Reflecting on School Life: “What Kind of School Do We Want to Be?”
As part of reflecting on school life, students in grades 4 to 9 thought about the question,
“What kind of school do we want to be?”
When students were asked the same question in the first term, many ideas were shared by each grade, such as:
- a school that connects with the local community
- a school where rules are followed
- a school with enjoyable lessons
- a school where students greet each other
- a school that is clean and enjoyable
After reflecting on school life since April, students answered a questionnaire about whether these goals had been achieved.
Most students answered “Yes” or “Mostly yes,” but some shared opinions that there is still more that could be done.

Thinking About the Future
In the second half of the activity, students worked in groups to think about:
- what kind of school they want to create, and
- what is needed to make that happen.
The older students students shared ideas such as starting a student council, improving lunchtime routines, and making smoother transitions between classes and break time through committee and class activities.
It was a valuable opportunity for each student to think about what they can do for their school.
This discussion will continue in the third term.
Futaba Meeting
Four junior high students who belong to the Futaba Student Council Federation held a meeting on Zoom.
After the Furusato Creation Studies Summit in late November, they took some time to reflect on their activities.
