During the 3rd and 4th periods on February 5, the final Book Lab and Book Talk of this school year was held, led by the volunteer group “Kuma no Pocket.”

This was the Book Lab session for first and second grade students. Once again, the children were completely drawn into the stories and the worlds of the books.

Next was the Book Talk for the fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students. Compared to the beginning of the year, the students have become much better at explaining the content and characteristics of the books, as well as clearly sharing why they recommend them.

Some students even introduced books they had read together with their teachers during morning reading time. It was wonderful to see how the activities were connected.

During the read-aloud sessions by members of Kuma no Pocket, they always choose books that thoughtfully match the children’s developmental stages and the season. Each time, we are amazed to discover, “I didn’t know there were such interesting books!”

At the end of the Book Talk for seventh to ninth grade students, the students expressed their gratitude.

“Thank you very much for everything this year. I have read the picture book Run, Diesel Locomotive Dede. Hearing again about how fuel was transported during the earthquake moved me deeply. Thank you very much.”

Recently, during the closing homeroom, everyone discussed the question:

“Why do we read books?”

“To gain knowledge and improve reading skills.”
“To have dreams.”

We hope that each child will continue to find their own answer to this question.
