We held a traffic safety class with police officers from the Okuma Town Police Station, who have been helping us since last year. They are the police officers who watch over the children.

The new sixth grade students were given letters of appointment as traffic safety promotion committee members. I hope they will take the initiative in keeping their juniors safe when going to and from school, remember to wear seat belts on the school bus, and follow bicycle traffic rules.

The important thing is to “stop, look, and wait.”

We learned about the important things for road safety through videos, such as not crossing the road suddenly, not crossing where there is no crosswalk, not crossing directly in front of or behind a moving car, crossing after the light is green, and not crossing near stopped cars. There were also quiz-style moments, where the children watched the videos thinking with their friends, wondering “Which is the correct answer?” and “Which is more dangerous?” One child said, “I ride my bike on my days off,” so we were able to learn about the rules of cycling.

After the activities in the Library were over, the children checked the safety of the route to school. The road has no traffic lights and not much traffic. Even so, “stopping, watching, and waiting” helps to ensure their own safety.

Practice “stop, look, wait”! Let’s do our best to go to and from school safely♪

It was a nice day, and we were able to see the cherry blossoms in bloom. It was a peaceful time to take a walk and check the safety of the route to school. And in front of the entrance and exit, there were donated flowers lined up. It was heartwarming to see the children happy to find a little spring, saying “How cute!”
