There is currently an exhibition being held on the theme of “words” by Mr. Sho Sakurai, who is also active as a news anchor. The exhibition will tour Osaka and Nagoya, with Fukushima as the final stop. Children from Yumenomori participated in the exhibition, which introduces photos and videos of Fukushima’s nature and culture along with words.

In January, we held a workshop related to the “word” exhibition. Mr. Sakurai finally visited our school, Yumenomori, and the 5th grade students showed him around the school. (Photography and videography were not allowed, so only photos of the children are included.)

In January, Yuya Ishii, a familiar announcer from Fukushima Chuo Television’s “Goji Terechu,” visited the school as a support announcer. He told us that the words of the children of Manabiya Yumenomori will be featured in the exhibition and delivered a message from Mr. Sakurai.

We met Mr. Sakurai in the Book Plaza and then headed to Koriyama by bus. Mr. Sakurai showed us around the exhibition and we had a workshop where we wrote about things we like about Fukushima, and about ourselves on strips of paper.

“I like fruits. I’ve been to Fukushima City to pick peaches. Fukushima peaches are so delicious!”
“Fukushima is rich in nature, and the sea off Hamadori is beautiful.”
Although we only had a limited time to interact, they were able to tell Mr. Sakurai about the wonderful things about Fukushima, and the things they like. This workshop was broadcast on Fukushima Chuo Television’s “Gojitele Chu.”

Thoughts
・I heard that when he wrote his blog in 2015 when it was first displayed, it hadn’t been decided that he would hold a solo exhibition. I think it’s important to keep records. The exhibition was fun.
・Koriyama is far away, so I was tired. Reading the big panel, I realized that Mr. Sakurai has lived his life doing many things and meeting many people. I haven’t heard much rap, but I thought it was amazing that he sang it without any stuttering.
・The singing corner felt like the sounds were going round and round. It was fun to read the word cards and make a rap.
