We also visited the Iwaki City Flower Center. https://iwaki-flowercenter.com/
Some students have been working on a project to plant lavender in the school flowerbed.
During the visit, we learned how to grow and care for flowers.
We were surprised to hear that around 50,000 flowers are being managed by just five people.

「We learned some important tips for growing lavender. Since insects can eat the flowers and leaves, it’s a good idea to use plant-safe insect repellent, such as “Sumithion”. We also found out that soil that retains too much water is not suitable, and that we shouldn’t remove the soil attached to the roots because it can cause them to break.」

After returning to school, we ordered the necessary supplies and began growing the plants with guidance from the school janitor.
“We chose lavender because it can be made into potpourri even after it blooms. I love flowers, so I wanted to plant them at school. We’re also growing rosemary.”
Let’s Build a Gundam Model!
We took on the challenge of building a miniature Gundam plastic model kit.
While watching instructional videos, we carefully assembled the tiny parts.

Our Quail Is Doing Well!
We started keeping a quail during the Nature Lab two years ago, and we take care of it every morning with great care.
While we clean its cage, the quail takes a little walk around the science room.
Every morning, we clean the cage and replace the food and water.

Tadpoles in the Classroom!?
A tank has been placed in the second-grade classroom.
As part of their life studies class, the students chose animals they wanted to observe and raise, and then went out to search for them.
Some chose pill bugs, others picked Japanese grass lizards or frogs.
They looked up where to find each creature in books and were able to catch the ones they were hoping for.
