We invited Professor Makoto Nakazawa from Aizu University Junior College to lead a programming workshop using Scratch. Scratch is a programming language that is easy to get started with, even for those who are not yet comfortable with typing. Students from grades 3 to 9 who were interested participated and tried programming for themselves. Many children commented, “It’s easier than I expected!”

Students in the upper grades tried a slightly more advanced task: teaching an AI to recognize images so that a character moves when they raise their left hand—for example, the character moves to the left when the left hand is raised.

“I also use Scratch in Future Design. We did programming with the same Scratch platform. I learned how to make things move the way I want, even in programming for lessons. I also learned how to teach an AI to recognize and respond to actions.”
3D Printer × Future Design
In the Creative Workshop, a 3D printer has been set up! By inputting data into special software, students can create objects exactly as they imagine. It looks like this tool will be very useful for future projects!
