Interaction with the local community! In a special class, members of the Senior Citizens’ Club Federation taught us new sports. All grades participated, divided into teams, and played boccia and scuttleball.

President’s Greeting:
“We are around the same age as your grandparents. Today, we hope to spend time happily with all of you. Although our time together is limited, we will play boccia and scuttleball—games that will make you feel refreshed and energized. We also hope to leave here feeling uplifted by your energy. If you have any questions beyond the rules, please feel free to ask. Thank you!”

The students were divided into eight groups for the activities. At first, some of them didn’t understand the rules, but they soon started enjoying the games. When the ball went into a high-scoring hole in scuttleball, everyone cheered loudly, and the excitement was palpable. Although the balls were heavy and controlling the strength was challenging, those who got the hang of it managed to land all three balls into the hole.

The students had experienced boccia last year as well. It’s a game where you try to roll a heavy ball as close as possible to the white target ball. Since it’s a team game, everyone responded to nice plays with applause.

~Reflections~

  • “Scuttleball felt like golf from a close driving range. I wasn’t sure if I’d hit, but I managed to and it flew!”
  • “I’ve played golf before, but this was my first time playing skatball. It was fun.”
  • “It was my first time playing skatball, and I couldn’t get the ball in at all—but it was still fun.”
  • “I was good at boccia.”
  • “At first I was winning, but I got overtaken and lost, which was frustrating.”
  • “I hit all three shots in skatball. I think I discovered a new talent.”

News sports are something that people of all ages can enjoy! Thank you to everyone from the Social Welfare Council and the Senior Citizens’ Club Federation.
