【Considering the Intent Behind Design – 5th & 6th Grade Art Class】
We invited a professor from the Aizu University Junior College Design Information Course to teach us about design. “Okuma Berry” is a jam made with strawberries grown in Okuma Town. This time, the students worked on designing the label for its jar.
The lecturer explained, “Every design has an intention or purpose,” while showing actual product packages. Students thought about what kinds of ideas and strategies might be behind those designs. What kind of ingenuity helps communicate a product’s unique features at a glance?
After learning about this, the students began creating their own label designs for the jam.

~Reflections~
- “It was difficult to come up with a design, but it was a lot of fun.”
- “I was happy that I could make a design I liked.”
- “I think I did a good job drawing my illustration.”
- “I designed it with the image of strawberries to show that it’s the best jam ever.”
- “I created a character named Taro-san, inspired by the local producers.”
- “I drew lots of strawberries to emphasize that the jam is full of them. I used a sky-blue background to express freshness and included Okuma Town’s character, Ma-chan.”
- “I designed a leaf frame to represent nature.”
【Preparing for the Futaba Meeting】
The Futaba Student Council Federation, which had been led by the students of 8th and 9th grade, was handed over to the new 7th and 8th grade members. As student council members, they will spend the year communicating with members from other junior high schools and engaging in activities that promote interaction between junior and senior high school students.

【Preparing for the Okuma Town Cultural Exhibition】
Students are putting the finishing touches on their works to be exhibited at the Cultural Exhibition. The pieces were created during classes such as arts and crafts, fine arts, calligraphy, future design, and technology.
They are scheduled to be displayed in the multipurpose hall on the first floor of the Okuma Town Hall main building from Tuesday, October 28 to Saturday, November 1.
