When it comes to New Year fun, nothing beats mochi-pounding!
During the winter break, some children enjoyed delicious mochi at home. First and second-grade students took part in a mochi-pounding experience. For many of them, using a traditional wooden mallet and mortar was a first-time experience, but everyone gave it their best effort.

They took turns pounding the mochi, and then it was time for the moment they had been waiting for—tasting it! They exclaimed, “It’s delicious!” Although mochi-pounding was heavy and physically demanding, they worked together and were able to enjoy the tasty mochi they had made.

As part of the “Happy Strawberry Project,” first and second-grade students also experienced planting strawberry seedlings. After being taught how to plant them, each child planted a seedling in their own planter. Many asked, “When can we eat the strawberries?” clearly looking forward to the sweet harvest.

In life studies classes, the students have previously planted, grown, cooked, and eaten potatoes and sweet potatoes. This was their first time growing fruit. We even heard voices saying, “I like strawberries!” They are already excited about the day they will be able to eat them.
