At 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 20, the children thought about disaster preparedness together with students from Aizu Junior College.
First, they discussed questions such as:
“What is a disaster?”
“What does disaster preparedness mean?”
They also thought about what would be necessary if a disaster were to occur.

In groups, the children discussed five items they would put in an emergency backpack and presented their ideas. One item that appeared in many groups was a flashlight.
Through the discussion, the children’s awareness of disaster preparedness grew even stronger ☆
After that, they took part in a workshop.
Candles made by the children will be displayed at a reconstruction event held in Aizu.

Each child made two candles—one to take home—and also created a candle shade decorated with drawings made from wax.
It was their first time trying this activity, and they listened carefully to the instructions with great excitement.
We are looking forward to seeing the candles lit 🔥
