With help from the Senior Citizens’ Club Federation and the Social Welfare Council, we held a “Traditional Games” event.

The members of the Senior Citizens’ Club kindly taught the children many traditional games, such as kite flying, target shooting, kendama, bamboo dragonflies, menko cards, beanbags (otedama), and fukuwarai.

These are games that the children’s grandparents enjoyed when they were young.

The kites used for kite flying were handmade from plastic sheets, and each child decorated their kite with their own illustrations.

At the beginning of the event, the club president gave a greeting:

“Today, kindergarten, first and second-grade students will experience traditional games together. Let’s enjoy the games that grandparents used to play.”

After that, the children tried the traditional games one by one.

They said things like,

“I know kendama!”

“I want to try target shooting!”

“It’s my first time!”

They learned while listening carefully to the explanations.

At the end, everyone went outside to fly their kites. The kites flew very high into the sky, and the children ran around energetically, saying,

“Look, teacher!”
