Students in grades 7–9 of the upper division participated in “Meets the World.” Until now, they could choose which country’s representatives they wanted to talk to. This time, however, they were on the receiving end. They prepared presentations in English class and in Level-Up sessions, and communicated with people from Venezuela, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia.

~Reflections~

  • “It was a different format than usual, but I was able to introduce myself in English as I had prepared. I could also answer questions properly, which I think was good. I liked that the other side chose us, so there was no problem with having too few people.”
  • “I was nervous when a person from Sri Lanka chose me. I could exchange a few questions, but sometimes I was too nervous to speak. Next time, I want to prepare what I want to say in advance.”
  • “I enjoyed introducing myself in English and asking questions in English in the upgraded “Meets the World” activity. Since the other side chose us, I was excited to see who I would talk to. I want to do it again.”
  • “I think it was good to be the ones chosen. Previously, when we chose which country to talk to, some countries were not selected, and I felt a little sorry about that.”
  • “I usually did this activity with friends. I was worried that I might not be able to be with my friends because I couldn’t choose the country I wanted to talk to. But I felt safe being with my friends. This time, I listened to someone studying space and airplanes. They didn’t talk in great detail, but I was glad to hear about their dreams for the future.”
