As part of the “Specialized Education Promotion Project” under the initiative to develop industrial human resources for a Super Smart Society, students from grades 5 to 9 visited Futaba Future School. It was a valuable opportunity to hear directly from the high school students. Thank you very much.

We first started with an icebreaker in the Collaborative Learning Room. While introducing themselves, students also shared about the things they like, followed by a Q&A session. They asked questions such as “Is high school life fun?”, “How many hours did you study for entrance exams?”, “Are the teachers kind?”, and “Is there a popular student in your school?” In this way, they were able to learn not only about entrance exams but also about everyday high school life.

After the Q&A session, the students split into groups: some joined a school tour and class observations, while others participated in planting pentas flowers. Inside the school, there were many special classrooms, including the nursing care training and the food processing rooms, where students can engage in specialized learning. They also learned about the school café from a graduate of Yumenomori, showing great interest in the high school’s club activities as well.

High school students from the Agricultural Specialist Course taught us how to create flower planters. The flowers were pentas, star-shaped blooms that keep blooming for a long time.

Reflections
- “The high school students were very kind to us. Their explanations were easy to understand, and I felt that I would like to be able to do things like that, too.”
- “It was my first time talking with high school students, so I was nervous. I thought their way of speaking was wonderful.”
- “I was surprised that there was such a big arena and that they had seven classes in a day. I thought it was rare to have a computer room.”
- “I was amazed at how spacious the school building was with so many classrooms. I was especially interested in how the science lab, cooking room, and sewing room were separated.”
- “I saw posters for the school festival. The junior high and high school students looked like they were having fun. It made me think about my future path and entrance exams.”
- “In the flower-planting activity, the high school students taught us kindly. I want to make use of this experience in our Future Design project.”
