The new school term has begun with the arrival of transfer students, new students, and new kindergarteners. This year, the number of students has increased even more, and the school has started the year with 54 students.

The ceremony began at 10am, looked on by teachers from the children’s club and people from Oriai, who support future design.

Each and every one of you has the power to do many things. It’s limitless power. Find out what you want to know, what you want to try, what you love, play a lot, learn a lot, make lots of friends, and let’s make our dreams come true together. What is the purpose of learning at school? School lessons are learned from textbooks. Textbooks contain many different things. I hope you will have fun while learning a lot, but there is one thing I want you to keep in mind when you are learning. In fact, textbooks are constantly being rewritten. For example, junior high school social studies textbooks have been rewritten based on new discoveries.
On the back pages, information has been added about the big earthquake and the nuclear power plant accident that happened here in Okuma. It has also been added about the “Hometown Creation Studies” program that Yumenomori is also working on, in which children in Futaba County are taking on the challenge of creating the future of their region. What is written in the textbooks is what we have learned so far. What has happened so far. It does not include what is not yet known, or what will happen in the future.
Studying textbooks is like digging a tunnel to find treasure. Textbooks contain many treasures that have been discovered so far. But there may be unexpected treasures buried further down the tunnel. Learning from textbooks leads to further discoveries and imagination of the future.
This year, Manabiya Yumenomori will operate the kindergarten and school with a focus on “pursuing individual play, individual learning, and individual exploration.” All teachers and staff will work hard to nurture the seeds of each child’s unique questions and wonders, and to support the development of each child’s unique thoughts and strengths. We were really looking forward to meeting you all. Yumenomori is a school where we “cherish myself, we care for you, and weave the future together.” Yumenomori has many fun places.
Yumenomori is a place where we help each other. We have a lot of interactions with local people, and even if something is difficult to do alone, you can overcome it by joining forces with your friends. You may feel anxious at times, but you will always have friends around you who will support you. Let’s make lots of memories together! Today marks the start of the new “Yumenomori”! We are really looking forward to everyone being able to enjoy various activities at the even more powerful Yumenomori. (Excerpts)
Discover your dream, Share your dream, Cultivate your dream
Find what you like and take the time to really think about it. At school, you will have classmates and teachers who are like family. You will acknowledge each other without blaming others for failure, and share the joy of small successes. We want you to have such a happy childhood. You will learn a lot from play, and have the ability to carve out your own future, without forgetting to have fun even while studying. Manabiya Yumenomori believes in the potential of public education, and allows each and every child to shine. We will take on the challenge of building a school of dreams.
As designers, we create “mixed learning” environments that are not standardized based on children’s age, qualities, or abilities, and where each individual “proactively manages their own learning” without being taught or given too much, forming “inclusive learning communities” where people teach and learn from each other and coexist together, designing environments that accelerate learning and play where each and every irreplaceable child “unleashes their curiosity and becomes passionate and immersed.”
Let’s learn and play at Yumenomori this year too!
