On the second morning, some children said, “I’ve been awake since 5 o’clock,” and they started the day full of energy. At breakfast, they ate a balanced meal with plenty of sausages and omelets. For outdoor cooking, they will be making curry. After listening to the instructions, each group got to work on preparing the curry. Let’s do our best to make a delicious lunch!

During the fire-starting experience, the children tried to make a fire using a fire starter with a hand-crank. They struggled for over 30 minutes, but the fire didn’t catch. They decided to try again next year. Even something as ordinary as fire, which we usually take for granted, proved to be very challenging when doing it themselves.

The groups began cooking together, peeling vegetables, washing rice, and cutting the ingredients into bite-sized pieces. After sautéing the ingredients, they made a delicious curry. Eating the curry they had prepared themselves, the children exclaimed, “This is amazing!” and “So delicious!” It was also an opportunity for them to feel grateful to their families who usually cook tasty meals at home.

After leaving the Youth Nature House, the group visited the well-known Sazae-do Hall, which is also familiar to students at Yumenomori. Children shared their impressions, saying things like, “It’s huge and amazing!” “It’s longer than our school’s Sazae-do!” and “There are so many amulets stuck inside!” They learned about the hall’s history and structure, gaining a deeper understanding of the connection between their school and Aizu.

The group returned to school after dark, successfully concluding the two-day adventure.
