On the second day, the students went to some new places. Especially the junior high school students, who went to the places to deepen what they have explored in the future design classes.

First, we went to a parliament building which is a typical place for school trip. It was not crowded because it was early in the morning.
“I was nervous. I listened to the discussion with interest.”
“I was happy to see a place that I don’t see usually.”
“I got to know that there is a prime minister’s family room.”
“I was surprised that the meeting space was big.”
“I was happy that I sat in a seat where I can see a meeting.”

Next is Maxell Aqua Park, Shinagawa. It’s an urban type of aquarium that has many kinds of attractive performances.

“The dolphin show was amazing.”
“The dolphins jumped high, and I was happy to see it.”
“I found a shark in the tunnel.”
“I enjoyed the dolphin show with music.”
“There were many kinds of fish, like sharks and stingrays.”
“The dolphins splashed us with water a lot, so I was relieved to sit in the back seat. “
“The dolphin show was powerful and great.”

“We need more time!” They looked like they had fun.

The junior high school students went to each place. They observed places, had new experiences, and held interviews. It was an individual activity in order to deepen their research they have explored in the future design classes.

They got together at Azur Takeshiba, and had a delicious lunch. They had their break here.

The last place is “Sona Area Tokyo”. It’s a place that you can learn and experience disaster prevention. It has some sections that explain big earthquakes and you can experience tsunami evacuation. There is also an exhibition about emergency kits, so you can learn about disaster prevention widely.

You can get a special tablet, and proceed through whilst answering a quiz. There are several routes you can take, and you can head to an evacuation centre as if a real earthquake has occurred.

It’s 6pm in the middle of winter. After watching the movie, students experienced how to evacuate in the event of a major earthquake.

The evacuation site park had two coloured floors, red and blue, and there was a two-choice quiz. They tried using the hints posted on the bulletin board.

They learned from the video how much damage can be expected by use of a device called a “seismic machine” that generates shaking, which simulated the shaking of an intensity range from 0-7.

After the experience, it’s time for a tour. We divided into groups and toured the facility.

“It was surprisingly difficult to solve the problems. I made some mistakes. I learned that I couldn’t stay still in an elevator; I had to press all the buttons and get off at a nearby floor.”

This facility will serve as a disaster response headquarters in case of an emergency. They were able to learn about disaster prevention through exhibits and videos.
I would like to summarize the reflections of the students in the second semester at the next opportunity.
We would like to thank everyone involved in each project for their efforts during their busy schedules for the sake of the children.
The 2-day trip went smoothly and we headed home. It was quiet on the bus on the way back.
